“Oh us fortunate few! What an evening it was!” Oban 14 year – Golden amber colour. A light fruity sweet nose. Oban 14 Year Old is part of the Classic Malts collection of Diageo, and it’s a fair billing. It’s one of those single malt expressions that most Scotch fans are familiar with, and it sells well. The 14 Year Old expression is even a fairly old one, having been introduced in 1988.

Tasting Notes and Ratings for Oban 14 by the Los Angeles Whisk(e)y Society. The Oban 14 yo nose softens after adding water, but it keeps the inviting warmness. PALATE: On the palate, the Oban is a different story, however. I was expecting a rich, creamy peat; however, there are notes of bitter lemon, overwhelming oak, bits of peat and seaweed and very little of the sweetness promised by the nose. Nosing: peat, seashells, green apple, kiwi fruit, sweet, oak. Taste: Spice, pepper, nuts, citrus, fresh fruit, salt, malt.
